What's holding you back from working with a freelance service provider?

Right now, there could be several reasons why you're on the fence about not taking that final leap towards working with a freelancer. From the perspective of a copywriter, it makes perfect sense to work with someone who can help you produce polished copy that gets results - and when I say results, I mean the kind of results that get readers, donors, and your ideal audience to take action.

Your reasons may vary - it could be due to low budget, your country's budget, or even, you are expecting some governmental budgetary announcements where you are. It can be a worrying time. Perhaps you've not worked with anyone outside your business before, and usually do things 'in-house.' You're worried that you might be making a mistake, or that the person you choose may not do exactly what you want.

Let's look at some of these things in more detail -

You have a low budget - This isn't unusual, especially in the topsy-turvy world we're living in right now. However, by not asking, you're not going to find out whether or not you have the resources. I do have a range of prices, but I try not to be too prescriptive, because until I know exactly what it is you want, and how long I think it's going to take, I can't give a fixed price yet. The prices I do have are to give you an idea of how much it's going to cost. I provide prices in both dollars and pounds as this is the currency I work with most. If you're in Europe or Ireland, that's not a problem, I can do Euros!

Prefer to do it yourself, but it's a bit of a hot mess? - Perhaps you got AI to provide an article or some web copy pages for you, and now you realize why they say a human is an essential component when working with AI!! Although I don't provide this service in my suite of packages just yet, I can exclusively reveal here that I can provide a copyediting service for AI-produced web copy pages and articles. I am a lifelong devotee of well-researched copy and content, but if you want to go light, that's okay, although I might encourage you to give me some data to work with. The deeper we go, the better it will be. After all, you want your articles and pages to convert, right? Don't be anxious if I ask a series of questions. It's only to glean more information so your copy is flawless. It's not designed to catch you out!!

You've not worked with a freelance service provider before, and you're on the fence about whether to go ahead - Why not hop on a call with them to find out more and to see whether you're a good fit? Ask to see their work, testimonials, and case studies, but don't be too hung up on them. You may find someone else has glowing testimonials, but you don't feel you gel very well, while the other person may not have an abundance, but they seem to instinctively know what you want. Find out more about them, look them up on LinkedIn, Instagram, or any other social media platform to get a feel for what they're like. Ultimately, it's your decision, but sometimes, a combination of common sense, asking the right questions, and gut instinct can go a long way.

They're not doing what you want in the way that you want it - Whether you're hiring a copywriter or a web designer, you've hired them for their expertise. They may say no to something you're adamant about, and this has left you feeling frustrated. Before you say goodbye to it all, why not listen to what they're telling you? They may have a good point. You have to have faith in the process, after all, why hire them if you're not going to utilize their expertise?

You'd like to just have an individual page worked for now to see how it goes - right, so this is how I feel about one-off pages. I usually prefer it if people book more than an individual page unless it's a sales or landing page. This is because doing only one page, especially if it's on an existing website, there's going to be some disparity with the other pages, and it may lack uniformity overall. Of course, the writer you've hired will do their utmost to make the page fit in with the rest of the website as best they can.

Of course, if you just want a starter page for now, as you're not sure about going for a full six-page website just yet, yes, why not? A landing page or sales page is perfect. Or maybe you want an About Page to be your landing page for now. We can work something out as long as you clearly state your value proposition. A well-crafted About Page could help you convert a lot of readers.

Finally, why not email me in response to this blog to help me understand why you don't feel ready yet to take that leap of faith? No hard sell, just email me with your reasons and tell me what you're struggling with, especially if you're a nonprofit, charity, therapist, or an assistive tech firm. If you sit outside those areas, I'd still like to hear from you. What you have to say may be really useful for both of us.

I'd love to see how I can help you, and yes, I like to get paid for my services, but perhaps you may find that the price isn't as bad as you thought it was, or perhaps I provide exactly the type of service you're looking for. You won't find out unless you ask!!!
