Why I Write For Those Who Work With Neurodivergent Communities

A few years ago, six to be exact, I finally gave a name to something that had made me feel alone and othered for so long. I had sensed for many years, and now I had it confirmed, I was autistic.
The diagnosis didn’t change who I was, but it changed who I wanted to work with.
It helped me understand why the traditional way of marketing hadn’t felt right for some time, and why I needed to change and adapt many of the things I’d learned over the years. I needed to build something that would help those like me who process the world differently, and who also felt like outsiders.

I knew there were people out there whose sole purpose was to provide services and products that helped to make people’s lives easier and improve the quality of their lives. I no longer wanted to work with brands whose only interest was in making money and shouting louder than everyone else to do it. I wanted to feel that what I was doing was worthwhile, and it made me want to leap out of bed every day. I hadn’t felt that level of enthusiasm for some time.
Now I write for:
Assistive tech firms and innovators that create software and gadgets that help people to live productive lives
Nonprofits that try to make a tangible difference to the lives of those they serve
Tech for good and inclusive SaaS companies.
If you have a message you want to get out there, a powerful message, then you need language that doesn’t just talk about diversity and inclusion but embodies it in your values, and your copy and content. Every story you tell on your website should be about how you can help, how you respect the people you’re creating things for, and what steps you’re taking to make their lives easier and better.
What I do - as a neurodivergent copywriter, I understand autism on a personal level
I’m a freelance copywriter if you hadn’t already worked that out by now. I create web copy, content, and I also do brand story strategy as well as other aspects of personal branding (and yes, it does still matter).
I help non-profits, assistive tech firms, and SaaS for good to create copy and content that feels clear, concise, and very clear to neurodivergent people as well as their parents, carers (if they have any), or siblings. No room for ambiguity. I work on your brand story that best reflects your mission and values, too. With a story-first approach, you build trust and make connections.
I offer both 3-month brand packages and one-off strategy sessions depending on what you need. You might be feeling a bit stuck, or you may need to completely change e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I also provide web copy and content packages - there’s bound to be something to fit your budget
Why does it matter to me, and why do neurodivergent communities and those who may care for them deserve better copy?
Because, as someone who identifies as autistic, it matters that there is someone out there who understands what it is to actually be autistic. To write for them, their parents or siblings/carers with inside knowledge about what it is to live with this condition day in and day out.
When I write, I’m not just putting words on a page, I’m building a bridge between you and the people you’re trying to reach, whether that’s with services or products, so your readers understand what’s being asked of them, what’s being shared or given, and what is worth piquing their interest. I’m working towards clarity, connection, and consistency in the messaging and copy.
If you’re one of those nonprofits or tech firms, then you want copy that’s clear, non-ambiguous, inclusive, and straight to the point. You deserve language that understands the complexity of what you’re trying to achieve, but written in a way that’s clear to the reader, amplifying the message and thus creating a bigger and more positive impact.
Let’s create copy that resonates with your audience - neurodivergent communities, parents, carers, or siblings
If you’re a nonprofit, tech-for-good org, or assistive tech brand doing good work for neurodivergent communities and individuals, and you want your copy to reflect that, get in touch (email address below) or take a look at my packages and services page to get an idea of what I can do for you.
