If I'm asking you to trust me then I should explain why. In this week’s blog, I explain the reasons why placing your trust in me will get you better results, and give you the best possible experience when it comes to getting your copy and content needs met.
Number One - I meet deadlines
Unless I have a good reason not to, I'll always meet deadlines. If I can’t I’ll let you know in plenty of time. Unless we’ve had an act of God, there’s no reason why I won’t be able to meet it, as long as it’s reasonable and we've both agreed to it before starting. Being reliable isn’t boring, it’s an asset, and it’s one I’m proud of.
Number two - I’m good at research
“Gillian has a deep understanding of an audience's wants and needs and is able to quickly find the hidden gems in voice of customer research that are crucial for great copy.”
I love research and finding the gems in voice of customer research, competitor and market research, that’s before my fingers ever start hitting the keyboard with words. I don’t just churn out copy, I make sure it’s well-researched first, so you get the right people to look at it and take action.
Whatever you’re creating, whether it’s a five-page web copy website or an ebook, I will have delved into the customer’s minds, researched the topic and made sure I have all the material I need to make something both compulsive reading and attract the right audience.
Number three. I’m on your side and I’ll give you all the encouragement you need
“Gill also encouraged me to “go for it” with my own repositioning. She pointed out my differentiators and their value”
Whether we’re working on your copy, your brand or your storytelling, I’ll help you to see where your strengths are and point out things you may not even be aware of. I don’t do things by halves, I go all in and you will be my priority from the first day. As long as you’re committed to the process, we’re a winning team and you’ll go away having more confidence in the direction you’re taking your brand!
Number four. I have a neurodivergent brain
I know what a lot of people will say to this, and I know it’s what I used to rely on a lot in the past as well. “I have a great head for detail and identifying patterns.”
Now, that is true. But there is so much more to a neurodivergent, autistic brain than that. I’m also incredibly good at reading people, not their minds, but their body language, through looking carefully at what they’ve said, at what they’ve written and also focusing on what they haven’t said (so perhaps I am psychic. But probably not). The mystery and the solving of it is in the things they don’t say as well as what they do say, between the lines as well as in the lines. I’m an introvert but no misanthrope - I love people enough to be interested in how they behave, and in marketing terms that’s a distinct advantage.
Five - Branding is my specialist subject, I’d be great on Mastermind
“She’s saved my neck more than once with her whip-smart Bio and About Page smarts.”
I love brand stories and cut my teeth on about pages and bios. I still do those and relish them when they’re part of a larger web copy project, however, I now also focus on overall brand story strategy, and I’ve branched out into personal branding too. So if you’re a solopreneur and you’re struggling with brand story - mastery of your story and how you tell it, vision, mission and values, then I’m the person for you.
Six - I love a challenge and I’m right there until the bitter end
“Her ability to absorb and synthesize information, to research, to reflect and to remain open to new information is a rare talent.”
I love getting my teeth into something. For instance, I have a big interest in assistive technology and in what it can do for the disabled. I believe in access to technology for all and the amazing advances it can give to so many thousands of people. I’m here for the complex and the amazing - and explaining it in a language that’s devoid of too much jargon and unnecessary convoluted words. That’s for investors, buyers, suppliers and the people they’re aimed at.
I’m open to new ideas and conveying their brilliance to the people who need to hear about it most, to turn your ideas into concrete solutions that people will invest in.
Seven - one of my special gifts to the world is being able to work on tight deadlines in a short space of time
Not to be confused with cutting corners and churning out garbage. You might have a landing page that needs that certain something, a tweak, an extra bit of content or a complete review or edit. You don’t have the time to do it yourself, but you’d like to hand it over to someone who can.
Or maybe you have an ebook that requires editing and you can’t get hold of anyone else, or your usual editor. I have years of experience editing clients' copy as well as my own, and although I’m not a full-time editor per se, like many copywriters, I do edit often, and I can be as ruthless as I am efficient.
If you have a last-minute project, especially at this time of year and no one else is available and I happen to have a slot free, I’m more than willing to see what I can do. If I don’t think I can I’ll tell you straight, if it’s doable and we agree on a process, milestones, payment and deposit (before the work starts) we’ll have the green light to go ahead. I’m diligent and pay close attention to detail so you’ll have a safe pair of hands onboard.
Eight - Clarity is my middle name. Well it isn’t but it might as well be
My clarity hour is helpful to see where something is going wrong or to help you see a way forward that you can’t see for yourself. Maybe you’re working on your brand, a piece of copy or an article. I can help work with you on it in one of my clarity hours and help you to see a different way ahead.
The perspective it gives you could be the difference between not doing anything, to doing something rather than being stuck in concrete, and that ‘something’ could propel you forward - in a good way. My story hour does more or less the same thing, except I go away and write it up for you. It’ll be the most refreshing hour of work you’ve had in a long time.
Nine - I’ll stay in touch throughout the project informing you of any milestones achieved and any issues as they arise. I’m big on communication and I like to keep clients in the loop.
I always maintain communication throughout the duration of a project, using Gmail or Voxer to let you know of anything important, and you can communicate with me using those means too. That way, any issues can be dealt with promptly, and you can rest assured that the work is being carried out exactly in the way you want it. I won’t go silent on clients until the work is delivered, but I don’t message when it’s not required either, so you won’t be bombarded with unnecessary updates!
Ten - I deliver a white glove service
I want you to love working with me so much that you come back, and the only way to make sure that happens is to make it an unforgettable experience. And by that, I mean an unforgettable experience for all the right reasons!
When I deliver the work, depending on the size of the project, I’ll explain the work and what I’ve done with an explainer video, usually via Loom. You’ll be able to see how I’ve worked and the method behind the copy/content’s evolution and have a better idea of the reasoning and how it's taken shape.
I'll make sure you receive a warm welcome as we start working together and make sure that when we finish it's a positive experience. That way, from the beginning to the end you're well taken care of. Onboarding and offboarding of clients should be a seamless pain-free experience, and I strive to make sure that it is.
There’ll be no nasty surprises because I will have discussed with you along the way if something doesn’t work the way you’ve asked it to be done, or if I thought another method would be better.
Naturally, if this is an article or a short case study, or maybe a short ebook edit, there may be no need for a Loom video and we will agree on that at the outset.
I’m here for you though, and I will always strive to ensure you have the very best of me during the time we are together, that the project is carried out to time and that the work is the very best that it can be.
